I've been a fan of Coulton's music for about nine years. I first heard about him when he was paired up with John Hodgman on The Daily Show and during Hodgman's book tours.
If you don't know Jonathan Coulton, he is a singer-songwriter who writes songs about geek culture. His songs are clever, catchy, and really quite funny.
He opened the show with his new song "Redshirts" which was written for John Scalzi's book of the same name. It's a story that is told from the perspective of a redshirt in the Star Trek universe and is hilarious.
Coulton played many fan-favorites such as "Re: Your Brains", "Code Monkey", "Still Alive", "Mr. Fancypants", "First of May", "Skullcrusher Mountain", "Mandelbrot Set" and "Chiron Beta Prime". The album he was promoting is his latest album "Artificial Heart", so he also performed several less well known songs off of that album. "Je Suis Rick Springfield" was particularly amusing.
Overall the show was solid and lengthy. It was a great night out, and I would go see him again in a heartbeat.
